How Does the Stage 5 Curriculum Work?

Our Stage 5 curriculum allows students the opportunity to begin to personalise their learning through the combination of mandatory and elective courses. The curriculum is designed to build a foundation of success and supports the continuation of learning into Senior College. Students also have the opportunity to receive qualifications that are nationally recognised by completing a Vocational Education and Training course in their pattern of study.

Mandatory Courses

As part of the requirements of successful completion of the Record of School Achievement, students must successfully complete a series of mandatory courses. These courses form the foundation of the Record of School Achievement as well as the Stage 5 curriculum.

The following courses are mandatory across Years 9 and 10:

● English

● Mathematics - Scientific Calculator Required

● Science

● Geography

● History

● Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

Subject Selection

Students select two electives in Year 9 and an additional two electives in Year 10. This practice gives students the opportunity to own their learning and prepares them for building their pattern of study in Senior College.

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

VET courses are a highly flexible pathway of learning, and depending on your goals after school, enable students to fast track their pathway to employment or TAFE opportunities. Studying a VET course increases your post school options as it provides dual qualifications including TAFE accreditation as well as NESA qualifications.
